No easy fix for Dell

The title of this post is shared with a similar one on the blog at CNET News.com. DELL is losing share due to poor service issues recently, and is responding not by improving service but by cutting price. For a basic computer, prices are already about as bare-bones as they can get. Most people are not going to worry so much about the incremental $50 or $100 savings when prices are already sub-$500. At that point, they are more likely to want a reliable brand. DELL used to be one. Recently it has lost some of that luster. Service issues have come and gone in the past, and ultimately DELL will fix the ones it has now. In the meantime, what is the latest response? The latest headline in our in-box:

Up to $250 Off Select Dell PCs

This is going to be a long, long process.

Update: Maybe DELL should consider a new business model.
