DELL: Meet the New Boss

“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss” - The Who, Won’t Be Fooled Again.

Dell says founder Michael Dell to take over as CEO - Yahoo! News

PC maker Dell Inc. said on Wednesday that founder and Chairman Michael Dell would become chief executive, effective immediately, replacing former CEO Kevin Rollins.

Well, at least we won’t be fighting in the streets with our children at our feet. But the change, it had to come. We knew it all along. Everything from the market share losses to the accounting issues told the world that a former management consultant was not the right person for the job.

The question now is whether Dell will do any better than his hand-picked erstwhile protege, particularly now that the business model he created ain’t what it used to be.

  1. Thanks for the commentary about the changes at Dell.

I can tell you with Michael as CEO, he is energized and determined and so is the organization.

Despite what you think about Dell’s direct model not being “up for the future” our 1:1 relationships with customers should not be under-estimated. We are looking to lead the technology industry for the long-term; to be known as a successful company with strong operating and financial performance; and, our customers are going to rave about the Dell customer experience.

Once again, thanks for the perspective.

I hope Dell excels. I just worry that PCs are too cheap now for a serious 1:1 relationship for many users.
